How to check if sunglasses are polarized!
Ever wondered how to tell if your sunglass lenses are actually polarized? Here’s a trick the optician may not tell you!
A pair of regular sunglasses and a pair of polarized sunglasses look exactly the same at a glance, but their function is quite night and day, and is an absolute godsend when driving in the sun.
Regular sunglasses simply dim the lighting with tinted lenses. Polarized lenses take the protection up a few notches by filtering out blinding glares from your vision. The protection comes from the laminated filter from the polarized coating.
So how do you check if your sunglasses are actually polarized? Here is a quick 3-step guide to checking at home!
- Grab your pair of sunglasses and put it in front of a monitor.
- Rotate it 90 degrees.
- If the lens tint gradually turns lighter, then your lenses are polarized.
Note: The effect may not be as apparent on some monitors.
Of course, you can head down to any optician, and they will be able to let you know instantly, but if you needed to know now-now, then there you have it.
